Why pre-marital screening matters for couples
Marriage is more than romance. It is building a life together, and possibly a family.
Pre-marital screening is a set of blood tests that a couple does before marriage. It can detect infections that pass between partners, and it gives each of you a general picture of your health.
Some infections cause no symptoms. Some traits can be passed on to children. Some conditions are easier to manage when you know about them early.
This test is not about fear. It is about preparation, and starting your journey with trust, clarity and care for each other’s future. Knowing your health status helps you make informed decisions about family planning, together, and lowers the risk of transmission to your partner or future children.
What our pre-marital screening package for couples includes
The same core blood tests for both partners, with rubella immunity added for women. Ask us for the current price when you book, or compare our other health screening packages .
| Area | Tests | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Infectious disease screening | HIV, hepatitis B (HBsAg), hepatitis C, syphilis (VDRL) | Some infections cause no symptoms. Some can pass between partners, or from mother to baby. |
| Rubella immunity (for women) | Rubella IgG | Important to know before pregnancy |
| Full blood count (FBC) | Full blood count | Can show anaemia, may point to thalassaemia carrier status, and gives a general health picture |
Optional add-ons: fertility hormone testing, semen analysis and genetic carrier screening. Ask us what suits you.
When couples should do a premarital health screening
A few months before the wedding works well for most couples. It leaves time to go through your results together and to follow up on anything that needs attention.
If you are planning to start a family soon after marriage, earlier is better. A woman who is not immune to rubella, for example, may want to speak to a doctor about vaccination before trying to conceive.
Want a more comprehensive health check-up at the same visit? Our full body health screening packages check many more markers in the same blood draw.
Who should get a pre-marital health screening?
This package is designed for:
- Couples planning to get married
- Couples hoping to conceive in the near future
- Individuals with a family history of genetic or chronic diseases
- Anyone who wants peace of mind about their health before starting a life together
What this screening can and cannot tell you
The core package checks for infections, rubella immunity and your full blood count. It does not assess your ability to conceive, and it cannot predict whether or when you will get pregnant. Fertility hormone testing and semen analysis are optional add-ons if you want to look at that side.
An FBC can only hint at thalassaemia carrier status. Thalassaemia traits are fairly common in Malaysia, and if both partners carry one, a child could inherit a more serious form. Confirming carrier status needs further testing, such as the carrier screening add-on.
If a result needs medical follow-up, we tell you clearly and suggest that you seek medical advice from a doctor. You will not be left to work it out alone.
We don’t just screen. We explain.

What does the premarital screening test include?
Infectious disease screening (HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and syphilis), rubella IgG immunity for women, and a full blood count. Fertility hormone testing, semen analysis and genetic carrier screening are optional add-ons.
How much does premarital screening cost?
Ask us for the current price when you book. We confirm the price, and any add-ons you choose, on WhatsApp before your appointment. You can compare each health screening package on our packages page .
Is premarital screening mandatory in Malaysia?
For Muslim couples, state religious authorities generally ask for an HIV test as part of the marriage application. The rules, and which clinics’ results they accept, can differ by state, so check with your state religious office. For other couples it is a personal choice.
Do men and women take the same tests?
Yes, both partners take the same infection screening and full blood count. Rubella immunity (IgG) is checked for women, because it matters before pregnancy.
Can premarital screening tell us if we can have children?
No. The core package cannot predict pregnancy. Hormone testing and semen analysis are optional add-ons, and our couples’ pre-pregnancy screening looks at conception readiness.
How long does it take, and when are results ready?
Most packages take around 1 to 3 hours. Routine results usually take 24–72 hours, and then we go through them with you.
Who explains our results?
Every package includes a report review with our healthcare team. Our dietitians explain your results in plain language, and offer nutrition and supplement guidance when relevant.
